Give an existing connected product a practical path forward.

Assess what exists, identify the constraints and plan the next version.

An installed product can outlive the software, service or component choices behind it. Boneless Grills can assess work ranging from a defined controller or app update to a staged modernization plan for an existing connected product.

Start with the problem in the field.

A component is becoming difficult to source. An app or cloud service needs replacement. The service team needs better diagnostic context. Or a new feature must work alongside products already installed. Each situation calls for a clear view of the current system before development begins.

Establish the technical starting point.

We review the available architecture, source code, build process, hardware versions, interfaces and operational dependencies. We identify access to accounts, signing keys, app listings, device credentials and documentation. Any work depends on the necessary rights, permissions and technical access being established.

Modernization can focus on one layer.

  • Controller or firmware updates with defined hardware compatibility.
  • App refreshes and device API integration.
  • Changes to cloud services and operational ownership.
  • Better diagnostic information and service workflows.
  • Documentation, test coverage and handoff improvements.
  • A migration assessment for an installed connected base.

Make change manageable.

A rollout plan accounts for product versions, update paths, user accounts and devices that cannot be updated. Pilot groups, acceptance criteria and a fallback approach help establish what should happen before a wider rollout.

The assessment can also identify a limit: a migration may be impractical, only part of the installed base may be suitable, or replacement may be the better option. Establishing that early is a useful outcome.

Define the ongoing commitment.

Maintenance, cloud operation, monitoring, updates and incident response are scoped explicitly, with responsible parties and recurring costs. They are not assumed to be included indefinitely in a development project.
